At the start of this journey it was the intention of the group to address the following nineteen issues raised by tenants;
Security gates not working on the Wharncliffe Flats
Flooding and water pooling on the walkways
Flowerbeds messy and full of litter
Vermin in particular Rats in the bin areas
Fire Hydrant missing
Flat listed as a medical priority property stood empty for 18 months and still empty
Noise pollution - loud music, screeching cars etc
Drug users - use of the bin areas and leaving of syringes
Noise from dogs particularly on the upper floor causing a nuisance
Litter everywhere
CCTV cameras put up but cannot identify people on the image- what is the point of them?
Caretakers never seem to have the time to clean the estate
Mess from the new Tesco site building - residents were not consulted before this took place
Had no one from Council walk round and examine the estate for over eighteen months
Was not offered help to set up a Neighborhood Watch scheme even though there was a need
Repairs reported but not being actioned
Bring back pride in and to the estate
Lack of communication and support from the Council
Parking Permits for residents and visitors
To date so far we have addressed the following
Security gates are in the process of being upgraded, flooding issues is currently being addressed by the Council, Flowerbeds are being replanted now, Fire Hydrants upgraded and made secure, bin areas will be upgraded and made secure with keys possible slow door release is in the process and will be sorted after security gates are installed, council asked to speak with caretakers regarding litter on the estate and the group plan a serious of litter picks to tackle this issue, CCTV is reported to have clearer images now, Tesco site up and running therefore building mess no longer an issue, Council are doing visible walkabouts in the estate and do take notice of the groups concerns, still communication problems but hoping the group is working towards resolving this problem. Parking permits are on a apply basis. There are still ongoing issues that will take time to amend but the aim is to work towards improving the area for the community.
